In this work, we present the synthesis and characterization
of
fused rhenabenzofuran and rhenapyrylium complexes with a metallacycloprop-2-ene
unit from the reactions of ReCl3(PMePh2)3 with alkynylphenols and alkynylacetophenones, respectively.
The aromaticity of these structures is investigated by DFT studies,
showing σ-predominant aromaticity in the three-membered metallacycloprop-2-ene
units.
