“…With the increasing requirements for environmental protection, great efforts have been made into advancing green technologies and sustainable chemistry [ 100 , 101 ]. The strategies involving free radical chemistry have been demonstrated as a powerful tool, with features regarding ease of operation, high efficiency, mild conditions and environmental friendliness [ 21 , 100 , 101 , 102 ]. Among them, nitrogen-centered radicals are highly versatile reactive intermediates, thus widely exploited for synthetic utility in C–N bond-forming reactions [ 35 ].…”

“…For example, Zhang, Li, and co-workers recently described a direct or deoxygenative 9-alkylation of fluorenones with alcohols by paired electrolysis . In the past decade, the direct benzylic C–H functionalization of petroleum-derived toluene and its derivatives, which is a strategic step for the synthesis of complex molecular structures and various bioactive molecules, has been well-documented . However, to the best of our knowledge, the 9-benzylation of fluorenones with unactivated benzylic C–H bonds has never been reported.…”

“…Base-catalyzed hydrogen/deuterium (H/D) exchange is considered as an efficient and economic deuterium-labeling strategy (Scheme ). Carbonyl compounds such as ketones, aldehydes, esters, and carboxylic acids are common substrates for base-catalyzed H/D exchange . By means of keto–enol equilibria, base-catalyzed H/D exchange can provide excellent site selectivity and high deuterium content.…”
