Radical Copolymerization of Vinyl Ketones. I. Copolymerization with Acrylonitrile

Abstract: A series of copolymers of acrylonitrile with various vinyl ketones were prepared via radical polymerization as models of photodegradable polymers. The kinetics of the copolymerization was studied and the correlation between the reactivity of vinyl ketones and polar, steric and resonance effects of substituents was established on the basis of the Taft equation.
