Radical copolymerization of sodium 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonate and sodium acrylate in water-alcohol solutions

Abstract: Water soluble copolymers of 2 acrylamido 2 meth ylpropane sulfonic acid and acrylic acid are used as flocculants [1, 2] and stabilizers of disperse systems [1], as inhibitors of the deposition of aluminum and iron salts in aqueous systems [3, 4], as thickeners [5], and as antistatic agents [6]. The efficiency of applica tion of copolymers is determined by their molecular mass characteristics that, in the copolymerization of ionogenic monomers, are usually controlled with the use of solvents of different natur… Show more

“…Reactivity ratios of poly(VP- co -AMPS) system have been previously determined by Kurenkov et al However, these kinetic parameters are strongly affected by the nature of the reaction medium. Our copolymers were obtained in water/dioxane (80:20), whereas Kurenkov’s were synthesized in water, water−ethanol solutions, or DMSO.…”

“…This modulated the hydrophobic/hydrophilic balance of the copolymers and therefore their solubility and stability in the physiological medium. Reactivity ratios of poly(VP-co-AMPS) system have been previously determined by Kurenkov et al [21][22][23][24] However, these kinetic parameters are strongly affected by the nature of the reaction medium. Our copolymers were obtained in water/ dioxane (80:20), whereas Kurenkov's were synthesized in water, water-ethanol solutions, or DMSO.…”
