For excitation of the A X 1 transition of PbF with our 10 Hz pulsed laser system, the 5 s lifetime of the A state [5] implies an effective ionisation duty cycle of 1 : 2 Â 10 4 . In addition to the obvious drawbacks of such a small duty cycle, experiments driven by short pulses of radiation occurring at low repetition rates may also suffer from large 1/f noise.…”
