Radiation properties of leaky modes near the spectral gap region for semi‐infinite printed‐circuit lines

Abstract: [1] The radiation field from a leaky mode on a semi-infinite printed-circuit line is investigated. Asymptotic formulas for the radiation field are presented for a mode that is either in the physical region (a fast wave with respect to the substrate mode into which leakage occurs), or in the spectral-gap region (a slow wave). These formulas, as well as a numerically exact representation of the leaky-mode radiation field, are used to examine the nature of the radiation field and to study how it changes as the le… Show more

“…Planar transmission lines with open boundaries have been widely studied to describe their radiation leakage properties [ Oliner , 2000]. In the past literature, the Spectral Domain Approach (SD) [ Oliner , 1987; Tsuji et al , 1991; Bagby et al , 1993; Di Nallo et al , 1998; Villegas et al , 1999, 2003] has been used to analyze this type of structures. The SD Approach was needed to express the Green's functions in such open structures and analyze the behavior of the constituent leaky‐wave modes.…”
