Radiation- and photo-induced degradation of five isomers of 1,2,3,4,5,6-hexachlorocyclohexane.

Abstract: Msomer of 1,2,3,4,5,6-hexachlorocyclohexane (BHC) showed greater decomposition on 7 or UVirradiation of five isomers of BHCin crystalline state or in 2-propanol solution. The a-and <5-isomer of BHCand known la, 2a, 3e, 4e, 5e-pentachlorocyclohexane were separated from the irradiation product of crystalline T-BHC. Four compoundswereisolated

“…A similar study was performed by Hamada et al (1981) with a 1500 ppm 2-propanol solution irradiated at 10 kGy at a dose rate of 5 kGy/h. The degradation yield was 2.4 X 10'4 (mol L_1)/kGy.…”

“…The reaction mixture was incubated for 10 min prior to read absorbance at 405 nm. Also, inhibition tests were done using E-64 [E-(L-transepoxysuccinyl-leucylamido (4-guanidino)butane; Sigma-Aldrich, E3132)] (0.01 mM; Hamada et al, 1981).…”

“…In the previous studies [6][7], the dependence was found for the γ-HCH (γ-hexachlorocyclohexane) degradation degree in 2-propanol on irradiation dose rate, as well as the influence of dose rate was revealed not only on quantitative but also qualitative composition of the DDT (dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane) radiolysis products. We also studied this relationship on the example of various OCPs (α-, γ-HCH, DDT and DDE (dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethylene)) in solutions at the concentration of 0.100 (1.00) μg/ml in hexane and 2-propanol [8].…”
