Radial artery diameter: a comprehensive systematic review of anatomy

Abstract: AimsThe objective of this systematic review is to determine with the highest accuracy the average radial artery (RA) diameter overall and in certain subgroups. The aim of this study is to provide assistance in the development of fitting transradial devices, an increasingly popular intervention.MethodsSeveral databases were used to extract appropriate studies highlighting RA diameter. Databases used in the generation of this study were Ovid EBM Reviews, Ovid Embase, Ovid Medline, Scopus and Web of Science Core … Show more

“…The radial artery diameter is smaller in females than in males. 27 In China, the average inner diameter of the left radial artery is approximately 2.44 mm in males and 2.07 mm in females, which is slightly smaller than that reported in other countries. 28 The diameter ratio of the distal radial artery to the conventional radial artery in the wrist is approximately 0.8:1.0.…”

“…To ensure effective coverage of the radial artery, we selected sensors with effective working size of 0.4 cm × 0.4 cm, which is slightly wider than the diameter of human radial artery (fig. S5) ( 68 ). Six sensors (named A to F in counterclockwise order) were arranged into a rectangular array to strike a balance between high accuracy and low integration complexity.…”

“…10). The average diameter of the distal radial artery, which would be the recipient artery, is reported as 2.70 mm [21]. The average diameter of the superficial circumflex iliac artery and the descending branch of the lateral circumflex femoral artery is 1.92 and 2.78 mm, respectively [22,23].…”
