Abstract:O artigo investiga o nexo entre corpo e liberdade como questão norteadora para pensar o racismo. Partindo das reflexões desenvolvidas por Emanuel Levinas, mostra como o antissemitismo nacional-socialista reaproveita o modelo de raça conceituado no começo da época moderna e discute as ligações entre discurso racista moderno e o mito da democracia racial no Brasil. Finalmente trata de uma possível apropriação do pensamento de Levinas no debate contemporâneo brasileiro sobre racismo.
