Untitled

Abstract: Hydropericardium hepatitis syndrome in broiler chickens is an acute, infectious disease characterized by high mortality, excess pericardial fluid and multifocal hepatic necrosis. The aetiological agent was purified to homogeneity from infected liver tissues from field outbreaks. Electron-microscopic and serological confirmation of the virus were undertaken and the disease was reproduced experimentally in broiler chicks. The results indicated that an adenovirus, fowl adenovirus serotype 4, was alone responsible… Show more

“…Some FAdVs can cause various clinical symptoms, such as hydropericardium-hepatitis syndrome (HHS), inclusion body hepatitis (IBH), and gizzard erosion ( Kajan et al, 2013 ; Zhao et al, 2018 ; Harrach et al, 2019 ). HHS is characterized by pericardial effusion and an enlarged liver with petechial hemorrhages in broilers ( Ganesh et al, 2002 ). FAdV-4 is the major causative agent of HHB, which was first reported in Pakistan in 1987 and soon spread worldwide ( Yu et al, 2018 ).…”

“…Subgroup I FAdV can be subdivided into five genotypes (A to E) and 12 serotypes (FAdV-1 to FAdV-8a and FAdV-8b to FAdV-11) (2, 3). FAdV-1, FAdV-2, FAdV-8a, FAdV-8b, and FAdV-11 can cause inclusion body hepatitis (4, 5), and FAdV-4 can result in hydropericardium syndrome (6).…”

“…Since mid-2015, outbreaks of novel genotype FAdV-4 infections in China and Korea have caused great economic losses in the poultry industry, leading to high mortality, characterized by congestive kidney, pericardial effusion, hyperemic and enlarged liver with petechial hemorrhages and punctiform areas in broilers [10], commercial chickens [11], and ducks [12].…”
