R&D Efforts Towards High Field Accelerator Magnets at KEK

Abstract: KEK has emphasized efforts to develop the RHQsuperconductor and a 13 T sub-scale magnet towards the LHC upgrade in last years. In addition, relevant R&D regarding radiation resistance has been carried out. For realization of higher field magnets beyond 15 T, thorough understanding of strain behavior of HTS and A15 superconductors is truly desired. KEK has launched a new research subject on stress/strain sensitivity of HTS and A15 superconductors in collaboration with the neutron diffraction facility at J-PARC … Show more

“…The development of a high-field superconducting magnets has lead to much research in areas such as NMR and accelerator [1][2][3][4][5][6]. It is known that a more detailed structure of a sample can be observed by using a high-field NMR system and high-resolution accelerators have played an important in the development of high-field magnet systems.…”

“…HE Nb 3 Al phase in superconducting wires for high field magnets [1] is produced during a Rapid Heating Quenching and Transformation (RHQT) process. Unlike the diffusion process, the RHQT process can produce nearly stoichiometric Nb 3 Al with small grains [2].…”
