Quercetin, but Not Its Glycosidated Conjugate Rutin, Inhibits Azoxymethane-Induced Colorectal Carcinogenesis in F344 Rats,

Abstract: The effect of the flavonoid quercetin and its conjugate rutin was investigated on (biomarkers of) colorectal cancer (CRC). Male F344 rats (n = 42/group) were fed 0, 0.1, 1, or 10 g quercetin/kg diet or 40 g rutin/kg diet. Two wk after initial administration of experimental diets, rats were given 2 weekly subcutaneous injections with 15 mg/kg body wt azoxymethane (AOM). At wk 38 post-AOM, quercetin dose dependently (P < 0.05) decreased the tumor incidence, multiplicity, and size, whereas tumor incidences were c… Show more

“…Volate et al [188] found that food supplementation of approximately 3% quercetin exerts significantly beneficial effects by decreasing precancerous lesions through induction of cellular. Dihal et al [189] reported that quercetin inhibits azoxymethane-induced colorectal carcinogenesis in F344 rats. Quercetin was found to be protective Verma S et al .…”

“…The results of studies shown that rutin is absorbed more slowly than quercetin because it must be hydrolyzed by the cecal microflora, whereas quercetin is absorbed from the small intestine (Crespy et al, 2002;Manach et al, 1997). Dihal et al (2006) revealed that quercetin, but not rutin inhibits azoxymethane-induced colorectal carcinogenesis in F344 rats. The aim of the present study was to investigate if rats which diets were enriched with hydrolyzed and non-hydrolyzed linden extracts have different blood parameters, liver transcriptomic profiles and some parameters of liver tissue antioxidant status.…”
