Quench Dynamics of a Fermi Gas with Strong Nonlocal Interactions

Abstract: We induce strong nonlocal interactions in a 2D Fermi gas in an optical lattice using Rydberg dressing. The system is approximately described by a t − V model on a square lattice where the fermions experience isotropic nearest-neighbor interactions and are free to hop only along one direction. We measure the interactions using many-body Ramsey interferometry and study the lifetime of the gas in the presence of tunneling, finding that tunneling does not reduce the lifetime. To probe the in… Show more

“…In this regard, our interpretation of the plaquette term as a correlated hop of particles could already extend the schemes provided in [43], which however was postulated for the limit of large boson occupation numbers. In fact, Reference [44] already describes a Rydberg atom implementation of the fermionic t-V model which allows the fermions to hop along only one spatial direction. With additional interactions to force fermions in adjacent chains to hop together, one could realize exactly the plaquette interaction.…”

“…In this work, we provided and characterized the phase diagram of a system of spinless hard-core bosons in a square ladder lattice at filling ν = 2/5, interacting via soft-shoulder potentials, and in the absence of inter-chain tunneling. These models are directly inspired by experimental setups using Rydberg atoms loaded in an optical lattice [24], where most of the regimes we propose are in principle accessible.…”

“…1(a)). In addition to this theoretical motivation, a recent experiment [24] has realized many-body dynamics of single-species Hubbard models with clustering interactions. In two-leg square ladders, our findings below are, in large part, motivated by such experimental capabilities, and offer a clear theoretical pathway to investigate the effects of frustration within that platform.…”

“…In particular, the stability of elementary excitation and the emergence of supersolidity is connected to R. So far experimental and theoretical studies have mostly focused on spin [39][40][41] and Bosonic systems [25][26][27][28][29][42][43][44]. In a recent experiment [45], dressing of the Fermionic 6 Li atoms to Rydberg P -states was demonstrated, which in- deed highlighted new opportunities for the exploration of correlated many-body phases with Rydberg-dressed Fermions [46][47][48][49][50].…”
