Quasielastic neutrino scattering: A measurement of the weak nucleon axial-vector form factor

Abstract: The quasielastic reaction v,n--t, -p was studied in an experiment using the BNL 7-foot deuterium bubble chamber exposed to the wide-band neutrino beam with an average energy of 1.6 GeV. A total of 1138 quasielastic events in the momentum-transfer range Q 2 = 0.06 -3.00 ( G~V / C )~ were selected by kinematic fitting and particle identification and were used to extract the axial-vector form factor FA(Q2) from the Q 2 distribution. In the framework of the conventional V -A theory, we find that the dipole paramet… Show more

“…[37] and in Figure 7 of Ref. [38] for the ANL and BNL experiments, respectively 13 . Muon-type-antineutrino (energy beam peaked around 1.5 GeV) induced total cross sections off the proton (neutron) for final π − p and π 0 n (π − n) channels with and without the invariant mass cut W < 1.4 GeV were measured in the Gargamelle propane experiment at CERN PS [39].…”

“…The experimental g A (q 2 ) has been measured in neutrino-neutron scattering and pion electroproduction. The neutrino data gives a good fit in the dipole form up to q 2 = 3GeV 2 /c 2 [19], i.e. g A (q 2 ) = g A (0)/(1 − q 2 /M 2 A ) 2 , with the axial vector coupling constant g A (0) = 1.254±0.006 and M A = 1.032±0.036GeV (world average).…”
