Quasi-Z-source matrix converters to be used in PMSG-based WECS: Modeling, control, and comparison

Abstract: In this paper, 2 quasi-Z-source matrix converters (qZSMCs) namely quasi-Zsource MC with discontinuous input current (qZSMC-I) and quasi-Z-source MC with continuous input current (qZSMC-II) are studied, and their dynamic characteristics are fully investigated. First, their small-signal models in space domain are obtained by state-space averaging method, providing an insight into their dynamic characteristics and their constraints. Their transfer functions are further calculated whereby they are analyzed to see … Show more

“…Latest developments have seen considerable rise in the utilization of Z-sources based converters in possible solutions such as environmentally ecofriendly fuel cell-based generations/photovoltaic (PV) to fulfil expanding energy demands, flexible alternating current (AC) transmission systems (FACTs), energy storage, electric and electric vehicles as well as in wind energy conversions [1]. In comparison by the direct current (DC-DC) two-stage conversions, the effectiveness of single-stage conversion improves as a result of this.…”

“…Recent advancements in Z‐source–based converters have witnessed tremendous growth in terms of usage in potential applications such as eco‐friendly photovoltaic (PV)/fuel cell–based generations to meet the increasing power demands, flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) devices, energy storage, and electric vehicles and wind energy conversion systems . Z‐source–based converters have emerged as a viable alternative among other converters because of the obvious advantages of wide output voltage regulation with inherent buck‐boost capability.…”
