Quasi-optimal PZT distribution in active vibration reduction of the triangular plate with P-F-F boundary conditions

Abstract: An active reduction of transverse vibration of the triangular plate with P-F-F boundary conditions is considered. The cracked plate is idealized research model as partially clamped on one edge with varying clamped length. The active reduction is realised with PZTs. In the paper, assuming the detached base clamped length, the influence of PZTs distribution on the bending moment and the shearing force at the clamped edge is investigated. To realize the purpose two cases are considered. At the former the PZTs are… Show more

“…It is possible if the signs of κ ν (x P ) and f P are the same, namely positive or negative. An idea of description of the signs of κ ν (x P ) and f P arise from the physical interpretation of the active vibration reduction; it is so-called the signs convention and is described in detail in [3,15,16]. Assume that all PZTs are exactly the same, hence {f P } = {f 0 } and { P } = { 0 }.…”

“…This problem was solved [3,[15][16][17]. It was proved there that the most effective PZTs distribution is on the structure sub-domains with the largest curvatures; such distribution is called quasi-optimal one (QO).…”

“…In recent decades, the application of piezoelectric elements for the reduction of vibrations, especially of bending type, has been considered in many publications -e.g. (Brański, Szela, 2010;Filipek, Wiciak, 2008;Hohl et al, 1996;Kozień, Wiciak, 2008;2009;Leniowska, 2009). The other problem, not considered in the article, is choosing the proper control algorithm -see e.g.…”

“…The piezoelectric effect provides the ability to use these materials as both sensors and actuators [1]. The application of PZTs for reducing vibrations and structure-borne noise [2][3][4][5] has been studied by many researchers in the past few years [1,2,6,7]. The passive control strategies for smart materials consist almost entirely of various shunt circuit techniques [8].…”
