Inspired by the newly observed Ωð2012Þ state at Belle II, we investigate the two-body strong decays of Ω baryons up to N ¼ 2 shell within the chiral quark model. Our results indicate that (i) the newly observed Ωð2012Þ state could be assigned to the spin-parity J P ¼ 3=2 − state j70; 2 10; 1; 1; 3 2 − i and the experimental data can be reasonably described. However, the spin-parity J P ¼ 1=2 − state j70; 2 10; 1; 1; 1 2 − i and spin-parity J P ¼ 3=2 þ state j56; 4 10; 2; 0; 3 2 þ i cannot be completely excluded.(ii) The D-wave states in the N ¼ 2 shell are most likely to be narrow states with a width of dozens of MeV and have a good potential to be observed in the ΞK and/or Ξð1530ÞK channels in future experiments. The Ωð2250Þ resonance listed in PDG may be a good candidate for the J P ¼ 5=2 þ 1D wave state j56; 4 10; 2; 2; 5=2 þ i.

Nonleptonic weak decays of Ξc into π + and a meson (M )-baryon (B) final state, M B, are analyzed from the viewpoint of probing S = −2 baryon resonances, i.e., Ξ(1620) and Ξ(1690), of which spinparity and other properties are not well known. We argue that the weak decay of Ξc is dominated by a single quark-line diagram, preferred by the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa coefficient, color recombination factor, the diquark correlation, and the kinematical condition. The decay process has an advantage of being free from meson resonances in the π + M invariant mass distribution. The invariant mass distribution of the meson-baryon final state is calculated with three different chiral unitary approaches, assuming that the Ξ(1620) and Ξ(1690) resonances have J P = 1/2 − . It is found that a clear peak for the Ξ(1690) is seen in the πΞ andKΛ spectra. We also suggest that the ratios of the πΞ,KΛ andKΣ final states are useful to distinguish whether the peak is originated from the Ξ(1690) resonance or it is aKΣ threshold effect.

At large number of colors, Nc quarks in baryons are in a mean field of definite space and flavor symmetry. We write down the general Lorentz and flavor structure of the mean field, and derive the Dirac equation for quarks in that field. The resulting baryon resonances exhibit an hierarchy of scales: The crude mass is O(Nc), the intrinsic quark excitations are O(1), and each intrinsic quark state entails a finite band of collective excitations that are split as O(1/Nc). We build a (new) theory of those collective excitations, where full dynamics is represented by only a few constants. In a limiting (but unrealistic) case when the mean field is spherically-and flavor-symmetric, our classification of resonances reduces to the SU (6) classification of the old non-relativistic quark model. Although in the real world Nc is only three, we obtain a good accordance with the observed resonance spectrum up to 2 GeV.
