Quark-mass dependence of the baryon ground-state masses

Abstract: We perform a chiral extrapolation of the baryon octet and decuplet masses in a relativistic formulation of chiral perturbation theory. A partial summation is assumed as implied by the use of physical baryon and meson masses in the one-loop diagrams. Upon a chiral expansion, our results are consistent with strict chiral perturbation theory at the next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order. All counter terms are correlated by a large-N c operator analysis. Our results are confronted with recent results of unquenched t… Show more

“…A crucial element of our scheme is the use of physical baryon masses in the one-loop contribution to the baryon self energies. Furthermore, the low-energy constants required at N 3 LO are estimated by sum rules that follow from QCD in the limit of a large number of colors (N c ) [20,11]. Since we obtain a simultaneous and quantitative description of the lattice data of the BMW, PACS-CS, LHPC, HSC and QCDSF-UKQCD groups, we find it justified to present detailed results on the strange-quark mass dependence of all members of the baryon octet and decuplet states.…”

“…Chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) [12,13], as an effective field theory of low-energy QCD, provides a model independent framework to study the light-quark mass dependence (chiral extrapolation) [14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21], finite-volume corrections (FVCs) [22,23,24,25,26,27], and continuum extrapolations [28,29,30] to LQCD data.…”

“…The ground-state octet baryon masses might be one of the simplest observables to simulate in such a setting and serve as a benchmark for more sophisticated studies [58][59][60][61][62][63][64][65][66]. Many theoretical studies have been performed not only to understand the chiral extrapolations of and the finite-volume corrections to these simulations, but also to determine the many unknown LECs appearing in ChPT up to next-to-nextto-next-to-leading order (N 3 LO) [60,[67][68][69][70][71][72][73][74][75][76]. In Ref.…”
