Quantum state measurements using multipixel photon detectors

Abstract: The characterization and conditional preparation of multiphoton quantum states require the use of photonnumber resolving detectors. We study the use of detectors based on multiple avalanche photodiode pixels in this context. We develop a general model that provides the positive operator value measures for these detectors. The model incorporates the effect of cross talk between pixels which is unique to these devices. We validate the model by measuring coherent-state photon-number distributions and reconstructi… Show more

“…as a supplementary effect. One of the most relevant example of such measurement (dynamic range of 10 4 , 11 fired pixels resolved) is presented in [6] for the 400 pixel MPPC (C10507-11-050U), and it is reproduced in Fig.2 (open circles). Both geometric chain and branching Poisson models are in a good agreement with the experiment because Borel distribution approaches to geometric one at low p (~9%), and both of them coincide with the Poisson law at p = 0.…”

“…PNRD supports promising and important applications in few-photon detection, nonclassical photon statistics measurements, fundamental quantum optics experiments, and practical quantum information processing [37][38][39]. In the visible regime, PNRD with high quantum efficiency and low dark counts could be realized by employing silicon-based multipixel photon counter (Si-MPPC) [40].…”
