Quantum phase transitions in the exactly solved spin-1/2 Heisenberg–Ising ladder

Abstract: Abstract. Ground-state behaviour of the frustrated quantum spin-1 2 two-leg ladder with the Heisenberg intra-rung and Ising inter-rung interactions is examined in detail. The investigated model is transformed to the quantum Ising chain with composite spins in an effective transverse and longitudinal field by employing either the bondstate representation or the unitary transformation. It is shown that the ground state of the Heisenberg-Ising ladder can be descended from three exactly solvable models: the quantu… Show more

“…Frustrated spin ladders accounting for the crossing (next-nearest-neighbor) interaction were also intensively studied, some recent rigorous results for a ground-state phase diagram of the spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg ladder of this type can be found in Refs. [17,18]. Exact ground states were also found for a frustrated spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg ladder with the Heisenberg inter-leg coupling, the Ising intra-leg and crossing couplings.…”

“…It is quite apparent from this figure that the Heisenberg coupling is assigned to all common edges shared by neighboring tetrahedra, while all other edges schematically represent the Ising interaction. The Ising-Heisenberg tetrahedral chain can be alternatively viewed as a special case of the frustrated Ising-Heisenberg two-leg ladder [36,37] with the Heisenberg intra-rung interaction and uniform Ising coupling along legs and diagonals, respectively (see Fig. 1(b)).…”
