Quantum critical behavior of the (Cr86Ru14)1−xVx alloy system

Abstract: Electrical resistivity, Hall effect, specific heat, and neutron diffraction measurements are used to investigate magnetic and quantum critical behavior in a commensurate spin-density-wave (CSDW) antiferromagnetic (Cr86Ru14)1−xVx alloy system. The x−T magnetic phase diagram obtained from the measurements depicts a critical point, occuring at T=0K for a critical V concentration xc=0.104. This point is classified as a CSDW-type quantum critical point using recently suggested methods for classification of quantum … Show more

“…The charge carrier density of the Cr 1−x Al x alloy system shows a sudden increase at the ISDW to CSDW phase transition. A similar behaviour related to QC was reported in pure Cr [6] and several binary [7,8] and ternary [9] Cr alloys. The behaviour of the these parameters, γ(x), n 2K (x) and N-G relationship suggests that there are critical effects occurring at the TP concentration.…”

“…Such a decrease is driven by nesting when the AFM state is formed. The decrease in n 2K at the P to ISDW phase is associated with QC [6,7,9,36]. The jump in n 2K at x c1 = 0.015 in the present alloy system is a possible evidence of QC driven by a decrease in the e a / when V is added to Cr 1−x Al x .…”

“…The numerical values for these fitting parameters are: a = 130 ± 60 K, b = 0.69 ± 0.19 and z c = 14.00 ± 0.20. The scaling component fits well to the mean-field value b = 0.5, that is expected for doping induced quantum phase transitions [2,3].…”

“…This is surprising as the MPDs of many Cr alloys with group-8 metals, such as Re and Ru, show interesting properties, including quantum critical behavior (QCB) [2,3], as well as superconducting (SC) behavior possibly co-existing with antiferromagnetic (AFM) order [1]. In order to address this limitation in the literature with regards to the phase diagram of Cr with group-8 metals a more recent study [4] focused on completing the magnetic phase diagram of Cr 100−z Os z .…”
