Quantitative trait loci‐based genomics‐assisted prediction for the degree of apple fruit cover color

Abstract: Apple fruit cover color is an important appearance trait determining fruit quality, high degree of fruit cover color or completely red fruit skin is also the ultimate breeding goal. MdMYB1 has repeatedly been reported as a major gene controlling apple fruit cover color. There are also multiple minor-effect genes affecting degree of fruit cover color (DFC). This study was to identify genome-wide quantitative trait loci (QTLs) and to develop genomics-assisted prediction for apple DFC. The DFC phenotype data of 9… Show more

“…These hitches were circumvented by using the physical positions of the segregating markers instead and regressing the phenotype on the allele frequencies, called continuous mapping ( Ashraf et al, 2014 ). So far, only a few studies have applied continuous mapping successfully in polyploid genetic and genomic analysis with sequence data of low sequencing depth to counter the effect of low-depth sequencing on genotype calling in polyploids ( Sverrisdóttir et al, 2017 ; Zheng et al, 2020 ). In this study, we identified the QTL for PD and TXD by using continuous mapping.…”

“…The predictability of QTL-based markers is likely not transferable to different populations [89,90]. However, the markers for RGA in this study can potentially be used for selecting materials that are genetically related to 'M9' and 'BC', because both 'M9' and 'BC' have been frequently used as parental cultivars in apple rootstock breeding programmes [91][92][93][94].…”

“…Fruit quality attributes are determined by various polygenes or oligogens ( Conner et al., 1998 ; Zheng et al., 2020 ). Fruit quality is linked with appearance, taste, nutritional value, shelf-life duration, and the ability to resist transportation injuries ( Chen et al., 2015 ).…”
