Quantitative Quality Evaluation of Software Products by Considering Summary and Comments Entropy of a Reported Bug

Abstract: A software bug is characterized by its attributes. Various prediction models have been developed using these attributes to enhance the quality of software products. The reporting of bugs leads to high irregular patterns. The repository size is also increasing with enormous rate, resulting in uncertainty and irregularities. These uncertainty and irregularities are termed as veracity in the context of big data. In order to quantify these irregular and uncertain patterns, the authors have appliedentropy-based mea… Show more

“…The concept of entropy is one that has been adopted for software measurements on different occasions [2,3,14]. The entropy of a CSS file with n unique classes of elements can be computed using their frequency of occurrence as an unbiased estimate of their probability P(C i ), i = 1, .…”

“…One of the approaches to decrease the maintainability effort is by managing the complexity of applications. Another approach is to predict code bug [2] or smells [3] thus contributing to prolonging the lifecycle of programs too. Software complexity is measured in order to, among other things, be able to predict the maintainability and reliability of software given that code metrics can serve as indicators of software defects [4].…”

“…Peng et al proposed to use a search technique exploiting inverted indexed terms from different topics for the bug triage problem [6]. Recently, Kumari et al proposed to use a bug dependency-based mathematical model by interpreting a bug's summary and description in terms of entropy to develop software reliability growth models [7].…”
