“…Of the 299 patients who underwent MRI for evaluation of OPG at MD Anderson Cancer Center between January 2010 and December 2016, a total of 23 OPG patients who underwent both conventional MRI and DCE MRI of the orbit were identified. The diagnosis of OPG was based on radiological criteria, including generalized or focal enlargement, presence of T2 hyperintensity, and/or associated enhancement of the involved optic pathway . The OPG lesions were categorized into clinically progressive form and nonprogressive form.…”

“…MRI segmentation and volumetric analysis was performed as previously described. 9,16 Briefly, both optic nerves, the optic chiasm, and the proximal portion of the optic tracts were manually segmented using the MRI sequence. Segmentation of the optic tracts was limited to 10 millimeters beyond the chiasm as reliable visualization beyond this point was variable among patients.…”

“…Novel volumetric MRI segmentation algorithms can now perform comprehensive measurements of discrete structures along the AVP. [9][10][11] Retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFL), measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT), is an assessment of AVP axonal damage and is an established biomarker and visual outcome measure for children with NF1-OPGs. [12][13][14] In this study, we investigated whether OPG size is related to axonal damage of the AVP in children with NF1.…”

“…In addition to the accumulation of damage within the anterior optic pathway, the OC appears particularly promising as a potential imaging marker, since it would simplify evaluation by reducing the region of interest from multiple structures to one. Only few studies have focused on the assessment of physiologic OC dimensions [31][32][33] and their changes in optic atrophy [18], while quantitative correlation analysis to visual function and optic pathway degeneration has not been performed.…”
