Quantitative Measurement of Soil Erosion From TLS and Uav Data

Abstract: ABSTRACT:Soil erosion is a major issue concerning crop land degradation. Understanding these complex erosion processes is necessary for effective soil conservation. Herein, high resolution modelling of relief changes caused by run-off from precipitation events is an essential research matter. For non-invasive field measurements the combination of unmanned airborne vehicle (UAV) image data and terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) may be especially suitable. The study's objective is to measure high precision digital… Show more

“…UAV systems were used first for military purposes [3] and later for civilian ones [4], such as agricultural and forest management (precision farming, assessment of woodlots, fire surveillance, etc.) [5,6], archaeology and cultural heritage surveying (3D documentation and mapping) [7,8], for environmental surveying (land and water monitoring) [9,10], for traffic monitoring (surveillance, travel time estimation, etc.) [11], and for 3D reconstruction [12].…”

“…Therefore, several registration targets (retro-reflective cylinders with white circled markers on top and regular GCPs), which were especially designed for the data acquisition schemes in this study (Eltner et al, 2013), are measured with a total station (Fig. 1).…”
