“…30 Thus, additional surface modications of mesoporous silicas are desirable to endow appropriate interactions between the support surfaces and the metal precursors. In fact, the mesopore surfaces of mesoporous silicas have been modied by a variety of organic functionalities, such as amine, 31,32 thiol, 33 and carboxylic acid, 34,35 in order to synthesize metal nanoparticles. However, it was found that the distribution of the organic functional groups, either on the pore surface or inside the mesopore, played a key factor in determining the size control of metal nanoparticles.…”

“…Nevertheless, in addition to the RF features, absorption bands at 1090 and 800 cm −1 , which indicate the presence of Si–O–Si bonding, 11 are observed. Although these bands are characteristic bands for APTMS, other IR signatures of APTMS such as the absorption bands for NH scissoring at 1558 cm −1 and CH 3 bending at 1329 cm −1 , are missing 12 . It is therefore suggested that an addition of APTMS to the RF mixture does not simply immobilize APTMS to the RF structure, but it initiates the reaction to form other silicon‐containing species within the RF gel.…”

“…It is known [14][15][16][17][35][36][37] that organosilanes are anchored on the silica surface by the interaction between the surface hydroxyls and methoxy species. The nature of medium used for functionalization is important in the context of interaction with a metal source (Ag, Pt) grafted on the MPTMS or APTMS immobilized silica.…”

“…Thus, one can expect different interaction of silver and platinum species with NH 2 groups in APTMS and SH in MPTMS. It should be emphasized that in the case of chloroplatinic acid used as a Pt source, protons can modify aminopropyl chain in APTMS towards the formation of NH 3 + interacting with PtCl 6 2− [7,14,16,37]. SH groups in MPTMS exhibit weakly acidic character and therefore can directly interact with PtCl 6 2− .…”
