“…Five functional groups of macrofauna was defined according to their food resource by referred to Li et al (2013b) and Liu et al (2015), including (1) The Abundance/Biomass comparison (ABC method) is an internal comparison of abundance and biomass distribution of the species, which can be used to indicate the levels of (pollution induced or other) disturbance on the benthic macrofauna communities (Clarke and Warwick, 2001). Species are ranked in order of their dominance to the community on a logarithmic x-axis, and with percentage dominance in terms of abundance and biomass on the y-axis (Clarke and Warwick, 2001;Pagola-Carte, 2004).…”

“…Some species important in the LT zone, such as the limpet N. concinna , did not occur at higher tidal levels. This species is known to be widespread and abundant in Antarctic shallow waters and plays a key role in creating tidal macrofaunal assemblages, species diversity and ecosystem stability (Liu et al 2015). In our material, N. concinna was not numerous but accounted for 70% of the total biomass.…”

“…It is also much higher than the values observed in the western part of the Fildes Peninsula (265 ind. m -2 ;Liu et al 2015). It has been documented that despite the harsh climate of the Antarctic Peninsula and Maritime Antarctic, tidal habitats can be much more diverse than at lower-latitude sites(Davenport & Macalister 1996).…”
