Quantitative characterization of the concentration‐dependent interaction between molecules of Dextran 70 in aqueous solution: Measurement and analysis in the context of thermodynamic and compressible sphere models

Abstract: The static light scattering and sedimentation equilibrium of solutions of Dextran 70 were measured as functions of concentration up to 100 g/L in pH 7.4 phosphate‐buffered saline at temperatures between 5 and 37 °C. The concentration dependence of scattering intensity and the apparent molar mass obtained from sedimentation equilibrium were found to be nearly independent of temperature over this range to within the uncertainty of measurement. Global analysis of the concentration dependence of both properties yi… Show more

“…Fitting of the data of pure PEG solutions (black symbols) to eq 2 yields B 2,0 = 0.224 ± 0.008 m 3 /mol, in agreement with the literature values. 42 , 43 For the mixtures (color symbols), we obtain B 0,2 = 5.4 ± 1.3 m 3 /mol, also in agreement with literature values, 44 , 45 and B 1,1 = 1.4 ± 0.2 m 3 /mol.…”

We assume that the concentration of PEG in the collection medium, c 1 III , remains constant upon equilibration of the sample, acting as a source or sink for PEG molecules because the collection phase volume is very large compared to that of the encapsulated phases.…”
