Quantitative assessment of urban flood disaster vulnerability based on text data: case study in Zhengzhou

Abstract: Planning to evaluate flood disaster vulnerability is a crucial step towards risk mitigation and adaptation. In this study, the vulnerability curve model was established with one highly popular area of research in mind: big data. Web crawler technology was used to extract text information related to floods from Internet and social media platforms. Based on the three indicators of rainfall intensity, duration and coverage area, the heavy rainfall index was calculated, while the comprehensive disaster index was c… Show more

“…To sum up, a fast and effective emergency plan generation method plays an important role in supporting government emergency decision-making and command and improving emergency work efficiency. Building a unified emergency resource structure model is a basic link in the construction of an emergency resource system, such as the construction of an emergency resource input guarantee mechanism and the improvement of emergency resource guarantee and mobilization mechanism [ 11 ]. It is conducive to improving the support capacity of emergency rescue, realizing the effective integration and optimal allocation of emergency resources under the background of the urban comprehensive emergency platform and oriented by emergency demand, and realizing the agile response under the state of emergency rescue [ 12 ].…”

“…We believe it is an effective approach to apply emergy theory to disaster risk evaluation. In prior research, Wu utilized emergy to assess flood disaster risk in Zhengzhou [46]. Based on the outcomes from the integrated typhoon hazard index, Jiangsu Province appears as a significant demarcation, with the northern region bearing considerably less risk than its southern counterpart.…”

“…Flood hazard maps typically depict a range of flood‐related characteristics, including flood extent and depth, flow velocity, inundation duration, and sediment or pollutant load. Inundation maps provide plans for flood‐prone areas during rainfall events, enabling early warning and implementation of structural and structural measures to mitigate the risk (Mzava et al, 2021; Wu et al, 2020). For preparing flood hazard maps, it is needed to develop a hydrological model.…”
