Abstract: This article is presented as a guide for developing quantitative studies and preparing quantitative manuscripts for publication in counseling journals. It is intended as an aid for aspiring authors in conceptualizing studies and formulating valid research designs. Material is presented on choosing variables and measures and on selecting statistical analyses models. “…A second theme in the competencies was the relationship among the steps of the research process. Specifically, a researcher's knowledge of the trends in the field and the breadth of literature on a particular topic leads to a research question (e.g., Boote & Beile, ); the methodology selected is dependent on the type of question that is asked (e.g., Greener, ); and the data analysis is dependent on the methodology selected, the data collection tools, and the actual data (Trusty, ). Thus, as suggested by the expert panel, no aspect of the research process can be conducted in isolation, although a well‐informed research question seems to be pivotal.…”

“…According to Trusty (2011), "if little is known about a research area or target population, it is likely that a qualitative study would be needed first" (p. 262) before utilizing a quantitative approach. Thus, the researcher chose a qualitative design because no current studies have been conducted with school counselors about sibling abuse.…”

“…Test of Hypothesis 1 . We conducted SEM modeling (consistent with Trusty, ), using LISREL 8.80, by first testing for a full model and then a mediated path model. The specified model is nonrecursive, which is consistent with the assumption of the stability of coefficients (Quintana & Maxwell, ).…”
