Quantitative and qualitative control of antineoplastic preparations: Gravimetry versus HPLC

Abstract: This article compares gravimetry vs. high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) as quality control (QC) methods for paclitaxel, docetaxel and oxaliplatin preparations. We aimed at assessing the preparation method reliability in our hospital, evaluating compounding accuracy and estimating the influence of personnel training and standardized homogenization on compounding accuracy. Agreement, correlation, concordance, accuracy and precision between methods were evaluated for each drug. Conforming preparation p… Show more

“…The rationale for using this relatively high concentration range was the possible application of fungal bioremediation technology in the treatment of drug manufacturing effluents. Previous studies indicated that Aspergillus species were able to depredate pollutants in aerobic or anaerobic environmental conditions and can produce a high quality of compost by degradation 15,17 . Aspergillus spp.…”

“…Visual control induces reliability problems because it is directly exposed to human error risk, and difficulties in traceability 12 13. Gravimetric control, if simple to implement without requiring expensive equipment, does not allow identification of the product 12 14. Among analytical methods used for preparations control, we can cite high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with or without column (FIA: flow injection analysis) coupled with ultraviolet (UV) detection,11 15 16 high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC),17 spectrophotometer UV/IR (Multispec, Microdom Company),18 19 spectrophotometer UV used with or without Raman (QCRx, Icônes Services Company),20 21 and spectrophotometer UV/visible (DrugLog, Pharmacolog Company).…”
