Quantitative and qualitative characteristics of Persian oak along altitudinal gradation and gradient (Case study: Ilam province, Iran)

Abstract: ABSTRACT:Quantitative and qualitative characteristics of Persian oak (Quercus persica) were studied in relation to altitude and slope variations in Ilam province. A total area of 1,500 m 2 (30 × 50 m) was covered in five altitudinal classes ranging from 800 to 1,800 m a.s.l. Samples were taken based on a systematic random sampling method with 24 sample plots at each class. In total, 120 sample plots (in five classes) were collected covering four gradient categories ranging from < 20 to > 60%. An analysis of va… Show more

“…Patton (2015) defined purposeful sampling as distinctively engaged and precise qualitative approach to case study selection. A case study design is an in-depth exploration of the object of study or phenomenon of interest, with a pre-defined population within a specific geographic area (Navroodi, Zarkami, Basati, & Limaei, 2016). The major characteristic that distinguished case study design from other qualitative designs is that it provides tools for researchers to explore in-depth study of a contemporary phenomenon within some real-life context, that allow researchers focus on the interest of specific case itself and not on the participants (Yohannes, 2017).…”

“…Persian oak ( Quercus brantii Lindl. ), a species endemic in Iran, Iraq, Syria, Turkey and West Asia 6 , is the most important tree in the Zagros forest region of western Iran, covering over half of this region 7 , 8 . Based on the De Marton dryness index 9 , four climates occur in this region, classified as humid, semi-humid, Mediterranean and semi-arid 10 .…”
