Quantifying Physiological Biomarkers of a Microwave Brain Stimulation Device

Abstract: Physiological signals are immediate and sensitive to neural and cardiovascular change resulting from brain stimulation, and are considered as a quantifying tool with which to evaluate the association between brain stimulation and cognitive performance. Brain stimulation outside a highly equipped, clinical setting requires the use of a low-cost, ambulatory miniature system. The purpose of this double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled study is to quantify the physiological biomarkers of the neural and cardiovas… Show more

“…Tracking brainwaves is one of the essential methods for assessing cognitive load, and electroencephalography (EEG) is the physiological tool for measuring the electrical potential from the scalp and that directly reflects the activities originated by the brain [14][15][16][17][18]. The cognitive and neurological workload of a driver can be recorded and analyzed using EEG.…”

“…Nowadays, a patient's real-time physiological data are generally acquired using wearable sensors, such as a vital sign tracker, an activity tracker [18,[20][21][22], and a sleep tracker [6,23]. Wearable devices are utilized in wellness and health stimulation, such as vagus nerve stimulation, microwave brain stimulation [24].…”

“…The neurological outcomes can be easily tracked through EEG. Due to its non-invasive nature, EEG is considered as an alternative to traditional clinical cognitive tests [ 8 ]. The physiological signal can be an effective tool of a real-time physiological monitoring system for early prognostics in a daily-life setup [ 4 , 6 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ].…”
