Quantification of pharmaceutical compounds in wastewater samples by near infrared spectroscopy (NIR)

Abstract: The quantification of pollutants, as pharmaceuticals, in wastewater is an issue of special concern. Usually, typical methods to quantify these products are time and reagent consuming. This paper describes the development and validation of a Fourier transform near-infrared (FT-NIR) spectroscopy methodology for the quantification of pharmaceuticals in wastewaters. For this purpose, 276 samples obtained from an activated sludge wastewater treatment process were analysed in the range of 200 cm −1 to 14,000 cm −1 ,… Show more

“…The experiments were performed at room temperature and the agitation was kept constant at 150 rpm. A synthetic medium was fed to the system in the beginning of each experiment accordingly with Quintelas et al (2019). Aqueous samples (1 mL) were taken at designated time intervals (within a 48 h interval) and analysed by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC).…”

“…The details of the PLS regression model are described elsewhere. [28][29][30][31] Baseline optimization was adopted to prevent baseline shift of spectra. The software was run on TOSHIBA dynabook R734/W3K Intel core i7-4700 MQ, 2.4 GHz and 8 GB RAM laptop computer.…”
