Quantification of Hemostatic Proteins and Activation Products in Synovial Fluids from Arthritic Joints prior to and after Induction of Chemical Synoviorthesis

Abstract: Synovial fluids drawn from joints of patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis were investigated for their concentrations of proteins and activation markers of the complement, coagulation and fibrinolytic systems. A broad spectrum of plasmatic inhibitors and other hemostatic proteins were detectable by immunologic assays. Compared to normal plasma concentration ranges, levels of α2-antiplasmin, antithrombin III, heparin-cofactor II, factor H, α2-macroglobulin, inter-α-trypsin inhibitor… Show more

“…39 Serum levels of SHAP in patients with rheumatoid arthritis were reported to be dramatically higher than in control patients. 40 On the basis of this observation, authors of one study pointed to SHAP as a possible biomarker of joint inflammation. 41 Overall, this 1DLC experiment showed many advantages for the identification of biomarkers in urine compared to the aforementioned 2D gels.…”

“…Coagulation is activated at any site of injury, as is inflammation. Fibrin is universally present at inflammatory sites (49, 69, 71, 156). Perturbed cell membranes trigger inflammation and coagulation (167).…”
