“…Across the 51 studies, 34 studies looked at TST alone and 9 studies looked at IGRAs alone [57][58][59][60][61][62][63][64][65]; 8 studies compared TST and IGRAs [66][67][68][69][70][71][72][73]. Just 8 studies excluded those with active TB from their study [23,32,34,50,66,68,69,71].…”

Just 8 studies excluded those with active TB from their study [23,32,34,50,66,68,69,71]. Only 16 studies reported on BCG vaccination with 9 using BCG scar as evidence of vaccination [28,32,33,53,55,58,60,71,72], 5 using BCG self-reporting as evidence [23,29,35,66,69], and 2 using BCG vaccination schedule in country of origin as a proxy for BCG vaccination [48,73], although BCG vaccination rates varied considerably across studies (0-100 %).…”

“…Recent immigrants from developing countries (\2 years since immigration) are at very high risk of active TB disease due to reactivation of latent infections acquired in the country of origin; for irregular immigrants, additional TB risks are related to social, economic and health care system access problems [29]. In countries with an incidence of active TB less than 10/100,000 habitants, active screening strategies for the identification of these high risk patients are cost effective in view of the control of TB epidemic [30].…”

“…The QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube test (QFT-GIT) assay (Cellestis, Carniege, Victoria, Australia) measures the IFN-γ concentration in whole blood after stimulation by specific tuberculosis antigens (e.g., early secreted antigenic target-6 [ESAT-6], culture filtrate protein-10 [CFP-10]), and TB7.7 antigen [8,9]. The QFT-GIT has already been recognized as an efficient alternative test to detect the presence of LTBI [8][9][10][11]; however, whether the QFT-GIT will be useful in monitoring the responses to anti-tuberculosis treatment is unclear [9,12]. The potential prognostic use of IFN-γ responses has been studied in research describing isoniazid (INH) treatment of LTBI and in anti-tuberculosis treatment.…”
