Quality of vision after cataract surgery after Tecnis Z9000 intraocular lens implantation

Abstract: Implantation of an aspherical IOL with a negative spherical aberration resulted in reduced ocular spherical aberration and improved mesopic contrast sensitivity and led to better subjective quality of vision.

“…However, at 6 cpd, the MCS in the Tecnis ZCB00 was significantly better than that in the Sensar AR40e. Our results were comparable to those from the study by Denoyer et al17 who compared aspheric Tecnis Z9000 and spherical CeeOn™ Edge 911 (Pharmacia, Kalamazoo, MI) IOLs. That study revealed that the Tecnis Z9000 group showed significantly better MCS at high spatial frequencies; however, the contrast sensitivity under photopic and glare conditions did not differ between the two groups.…”

“…They have an aspheric, modified prolate anterior surface that is designed to minimize spherical aberrations and improve contrast sensitivity after cataract surgery [21]. In contrast, Tecnis® multifocal IOLs (ZMB00, ZMA00) are foldable three-piece (ZMB00) or one-piece (ZMA00) diffractive multifocal acrylic IOLs with 6.0-mm optics and an aspheric, modified prolate anterior surface.…”

“…However, there has not been any statistical significance observed between the aspherical IOLs [2][3][4]. Our study is the first to compare two single-piece hydrophobic acrylic aspherical IOLs and demonstrate data on VEP, retinal sensitivity, and fixation stability.…”
