Quality-of-Life Outcomes in Patients who Underwent Subcutaneous Immunotherapy and Sublingual Immunotherapy in a Real-World Clinical Setting

Abstract: Although improvements in QOL were noted in both groups, changes in overall scores and the majority of domains only achieved statistical significance in the SCIT group. A small study population and difficulties adhering to immunotherapy dosing schedules in the SLIT group may be contributing factors.

“…Nowadays, few observational studies, under clinical routine conditions, have shown the benefits of AIT treatment in improving the QoL of patients with AR (38,39). Interestingly, Schwanke et al (40) in 2017 published a observational study with the objective to compare changes in QoL with sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) and SCIT treatments in patients with AR in a real-world clinical setting. They concluded that although improvements in QoL were noted in both groups, changes in overall scores and the majority of domains only achieved statistical significance in the SCIT group.…”

“…After 1 year of treatment, both SCIT and SLIT achieved the minimally important difference from baseline in the overall RQLQ score (33). Economic aspects have increasing importance in any medical treatment.…”

“…The authorized and Sinicized RQLQ was applied. RQLQ consists of 28 questions on a 7-point scale (0 = not impaired at all, 6 = severely impaired) in 7 domains: activity limitations, sleep problems, nose and eye symptoms, non-nose/eye symptoms, practical problems, and emotional functions [14]. Total score and seven domain scores between groups were compared.…”
