Quality of life, anxiety and depression patient‐reported outcome measures in testicular cancer: A systematic review

Abstract: Objectives Several patient‐reported outcome measures (PROMs) are available for the assessment of quality of life (QoL), anxiety and depression for testicular cancer (TCa); however, these PROMs have uncertain validation of their psychometric properties for TCa‐only cohorts. This systematic review aims to critically analyse and evaluate the psychometric properties of these QoL, anxiety and depression PROMs. Methods PubMed, EMBASE and PsycInfo were searched by two independent reviewers from inception to August 20… Show more

“…We utilized the COSMIN standards, a series of reporting guidelines for studies of PROM measurement properties, which have been widely used to assess the quality of other disease-specific PROMs. [45][46][47][48] Overall, we found significant variability in the developmental quality and measurement properties of the 16 identified PROMs. Of the instruments evaluated in this review, the Xerostomia Inventory represented the most rigorously developed PROM for xerostomia evaluation and met criteria for adequacy in nearly all (6/7) domains except content validity.…”

“…In this review, we assessed the quality of currently available PROMs for salivary dysfunction, including hyposalivation, obstructed salivation, and hypersalivation symptoms. We utilized the COSMIN standards, a series of reporting guidelines for studies of PROM measurement properties, which have been widely used to assess the quality of other disease‐specific PROMs 45–48 . Overall, we found significant variability in the developmental quality and measurement properties of the 16 identified PROMs.…”

“…Socioeconomic factors [32] and nancial toxicity [7] have been shown to interact and in uence QoL in complex ways. Anxiety and depression, both more common in GCT [5], may impact QoL [13,33].…”

“…Despite the high survival rate and the high rate of response to treatments [15], many TC patients experience a broad set of undesired social, psychological, and sexual side effects due to the treatments [16][17][18][19][20]. In particular, as part of the male reproductive system, the testes play a functional role in spermatogenesis and in the formation of testosterone by assisting in androgen production [21][22][23], and so, this can be impaired.…”
