“…In fact, younger stroke survivors have more problems in term of identity, life satisfaction, social and sexual relationship, finances and support when they return to work (Martinsen, Kirkevold, & Sveen, ; Roding, Glader, Malm, & Lindstrom, ; Sadler, Daniel, Wolfe, & McKevitt, ). The association between higher survivor physical functioning and higher caregiver QOL was expected since better survivor physical functioning, as also reported in other studies (Ogunlana et al., ; Pucciarelli et al., ), represents fewer problems in caregiver life.…”

“…Our study identified predictors of caregiver QOL, anxiety, depression and burden over the 12 months of the study. The found association between caregiver QOL and caregiver age is not consistent in the literature since some studies found a significant association between caregiver age and caregiver QOL (Akosile, Okoye, Nwankwo, Akosile, & Mbada, ; Ogunlana, Dada, Oyewo, Odole, & Ogunsan, ) while others studies have not (Chuluunbaatar et al., ; White, Poissant, Cote‐LeBlanc, & Wood‐Dauphinee, ). Thus, our study corroborates the first group of studies as older caregivers have in general more conditions or situations that decrease their QOL (Jeong, Jeong, Kim, & Kim, ).…”

“…These findings are in line with the previous findings demonstrating satisfaction with social support and marital quality [19][20][21] Study findings also evident that caring for a stroke survivors for a very long time had negative impact on environmental quality of life aspects. Findings found agreement in a previous study conducted by Ogunlana et al [22] which reported that duration of stroke had worse impact on quality of life in caregivers. In terms of relationship between quality of life and coping strategies, findings revealed that good quality of life lead more use of positive coping styles in family caregivers and vice versa.…”

“…Greater physical disability has been shown to lead to increased care burden and consequently poorer caregiver QOL. 43 In contrast, stroke survivors were not significantly impacted by time-varying changes in caregiver burden, suggesting that survivors are more impacted by their own physical functioning rather than caregiver burden.…”

“…The aggregate (time-invariant) effects are consistent with previous cross-sectional research. 42,43 However, the examination of time-varying effects adds new knowledge and expands our understanding of the fluctuating nature of the stroke context and the importance of such rapid changes on QOL for both members of the dyad. The time-varying effects indicate that changes in the survivor's physical functioning and caregiver burden every 3 months are significantly associated with changes every 3 months in dyadic QOL.…”
