“…However, as the late postoperative HRQoL surveys were once-only measures and consequently are not the same people as at mid-term, the apparent resolution may not be reflective of reality. Nonetheless, these late HRQoL outcomes compare favourably with a similar aged sample of VR patients in Germany evaluated for late HRQoL 29. The late HRQoL scores for Fijian sample in this current study were congruent with Aicher et al ,29 outcomes across all domains with general health (mean 57 vs 72) and vitality (mean 52 vs 68) exceeding the scores of Aicher et al 29 sample at a clinically significant level 22…”

“…33,34 Mechanical composite prostheses are undoubtedly superior regarding long-term durability, but lifelong anticoagulation may limit patient quality of life. 35 However, although an accumulated risk of bleeding has been described and certainly is not to be underestimated, particularly with increasing age of the recipient when bleeding complications may become more threatening, we failed to note any episodes of severe bleeding in the entire cohort during a 12-year follow-up period.…”

“…This risk can have a significant impact on young patients with an active lifestyle or on women who want to become pregnant after the operation [18,19]. Furthermore, evidence exists that patients who undergo aortic valve repair have an improved overall quality of life compared with patients who receive a mechanical valve [20]. Only a few previous comparisons have been performed on the various surgical options for aortic root pathology.…”
