Quality-Aware Mashup Composition: Issues, Techniques and Tools

Abstract: Abstract-Web mashups are a new generation of applications based on the composition of ready-to-use, heterogeneous components. In different contexts, ranging from the consumer Web to Enterprise systems, the potential of this new technology is to make users evolve from passive receivers of applications to actors actively involved in the creation of their artifacts, thus accommodating the inherent variability of the users' needs. Current advances in mashup technologies are good candidates to satisfy this requirem… Show more

“…In some previous works, we already experimented mechanisms to pro vide recommendations about services and composition patterns to be exploited in a mashup [11]. In situations where a mashup platform has to support the creation of complex workspaces, some mechanisms are also needed to avoid errors, for example checking whether collisions and inconsistencies occur among concurring events at the UI level.…”

“…Thanks to the intermixing of application design and execution, the users are provided with immediate feedback about the effect of their composition actions. [Cappiello et al 2011a[Cappiello et al , 2011b[Cappiello et al , 2012.…”

“…Cappiello et al [2012] specifically focus on end-user development and on a widget-based live mashup paradigm that comes without explicit models (making development more intuitive) and complement it with quality-aware recommendations of UI widgets. Quality awareness may indeed improve the quality in our approach also, but so far our focus has been on model-driven mashup paradigms.…”
