Quality assessment and traceability study of Angelicae Sinensis Radix via binary chromatography, triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry, and multivariate statistical analysis

Abstract: Angelicae Sinensis Radix is a world‐renowned herbal medicine originating in China. Owing to many environmental and geographical factors, Angelicae Sinensis Radix from various origins may have a difference in the content of ingredients, which made the confusion in the clinical practice and market. Herein, a binary chromatographic fingerprinting analysis method is developed via hydrophilic interaction chromatography and reversed‐phase liquid chromatography to obtain more chemical information. Following that, an … Show more

“…It is a tonic prescription to benefit qi for promoting the production of blood, which is commonly used for the clinical treatment of blood deficiency and yang floating [2]. In modern reports, multiple bio-active ingredients from DBD have been isolated and identified, such as flavonoids, saponins, and phthalides [3][4][5]. The bio-active chemicals mentioned above in DBD have pharmacological activities such as hematopoiesis, cardiovascular protection, hepatoprotection, and anti-tumor, with remarkable therapeutic effects on immune-mediated aplastic anemia [6,7].…”

“…In the past two decades, various approaches, including chromatography (Papapetros et al, 2018; Zhao et al, 2021), mass spectrometry (MS) (Hori et al, 2016; Zhao et al, 2021), and DNA barcoding (CBOL Plant Working Group, 2009; Dong et al, 2015; Li et al, 2011; Manzanilla et al, 2022), have been used for species identification and geographic traceability. Among them, molecular‐based methods have attracted much attention because of their significant advantages in accuracy, sensitivity, and high reproducibility (Dormontt et al, 2015; Fanelli et al, 2021; Lowe & Cross, 2011; Schmitz et al, 2020), and have been increasingly used for authenticity and traceability of food with plant or animal origin, such as lentil ( Lens culinaris Medic.…”

“…At present, the commonly used methods to trace the origin of Chinese medicinal materials mainly include spectral analysis methods such as raman spectroscopy 10 , nuclear magnetic resonance 11 , infrared spectroscopy 12 , near-infrared spectroscopy 13 and uorescence spectroscopy 14 mass spectrometry analysis methods such as isotope ratio mass spectrometry 15 , inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry 16 , liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry 17 and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry 18 . However, these methods all require more professional and complex instruments and equipment, and have higher requirements for instrument operators.…”
