“…Applications of the technique in business and management are fewer, though representative examples are available in areas such as international business (e.g., Pajunen, 2008;Schneider, SchulzeBentrop, & Paunescu, 2010), innovation (e.g., Cheng, Chang, & Li, 2013;Ganter & Hecker, 2013;Stanko & Olleros, 2013), organizational behavior and strategic management (e.g., Fiss, 2011;Greckhamer, Misangyi, Elms, & Lacey, 2008;Stokke, 2007), inter-organizational alliances (e.g., Leischnig, Geigenmueller, & Lohmann, 2013), tourism management (e.g., Woodside, Hsu, & Marshall, 2011), socially responsible practices (e.g., Crilly, Zollo, & Hansen, 2012), and labor relations (e.g., Coverdill, Finlay, & Martin, 1994). Ragin (2000) was the first to introduce fsQCA; this technique differs from regression-based methods and other conventional statistical techniques in important ways (Mahoney & Goertz, 2006;Pajunen, 2008).…”

“…Contrary to correlational methods, such as structural equation modeling (SEM), which estimate the net effect of an independent variable on a dependent variable, fsQCA identifies the conditions that lead to a given outcome (Cheng et al, 2013;Schneider et al, 2010;Stokke, 2007). In this way, fsQCA supplements conventional correlational analyses thanks to its three main advantages: (1) asymmetry (i.e., the relationships between independent and dependent variables are treated as asymmetric); (2) equifinality (i.e., multiple pathways lead to the same outcome); and (3) causal complexity (i.e., combinations of causal antecedent conditions lead to the outcome, and hence, the focus is not on net effects, but on combinatorial effects) (Fiss, 2011;Ganter & Hecker, 2014;Pajunen, 2008;Skarmeas et al, 2014).…”

“…'This approach provides more precise information on the case under investigation (...) and is easily interpretable (Vis et al, 2007: 537). As for Stokke (2007), he completes the list of advantages of using qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) by adding the fact that this technique can help the investigator to consider more cases than he would usual do. For instance, Chang, Tseng and Woodside (2013) used this technique to analyse 645 self-administered questionnaires.…”

“…To the list of benefits of this method can be added achieving accuracy and generalisation (Woodside and Baxter, 2013), it is more informative and structured . Last but not least, this method can be applied to a variety of areas like education (Schneider, Bentrop & Paunescu, 2010); health (Chang, Tseng & Woodside, 2013); ICT ; hospitality (Ordanini, Parasuraman and Rubera, 2013), in B2B context (Woodside & Baxter, 2013), countries economic performance (Vis, 2007), politics (Stokke, 2007) to name a few. If Ordanini & Parasuraman (2013) introduced QCA into a luxury hotel context to investigate how customers' perceptions of new service attribute influence adoption intentions in order to evidence that QCA can help make better sense of the data in research contexts, it is however very important to highlight the fact, QCA is not the only research technique advocating the use of more than one source of information or data.…”
