Qualification Tests of HF RFID Foil Transponders for a Vehicle Guidance System

Abstract: In the research project "TagDrive" RFID (radio frequency identification) passive transponders with 13.56 MHz operation frequency are used for an AGV (autonomous guided vehicle) and an automobile guidance system. A PMMA (polymethylmetacrylate) casing is developed for transponder protection and fixation on the floor of facility buildings and on roadway surface. To qualify both encasing and RFID system a speed and range test facility is developed to simulate the high vehicle velocity. The facility achieves a rela… Show more

“…But the ranges of this system are very limited; also the readers can be very expensive. Researches have shown the ability of passive systems in some field such as vehicle guidance [36] and inventory control [37]. Active RFID tags equipped with internal battery power can actively transmit their ID or other data to readers.…”

“…The RFID tags on the products are regarded as triggers and the system can register products with the movement plans and monitor the locations of the products. Baum et al [7] utilized the RFID technology to build the positioning system of an automated guided vehicle (AGV).…”
