ResumoO tratamento de sementes com paclobutrazol (PBZ) deve ser aprimorado e tecnologias de recobrimento, como a peliculização, podem ser promissoras para aplicar uniformemente e fixar esse regulador no tegumento das sementes sem permitir um contato prejudicial ao embrião. Assim, determinaram-se os efeitos da peliculização de sementes com paclobutrazol no potencial fisiológico de sementes de tomate e as suas implicações no crescimento de mudas. Empregou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 x 4, sendo presença e ausência do polímero de revestimento Disco AG Red L-203® (0 e 150 mL kg -1 de semente) e quatro concentrações de paclobutrazol -PBZ (0, 38,5, 76,9 e 115,4 mg L -1 ). A interação entre os fatores (peliculização x concentrações de paclobutrazol) ocorreu somente para a variável condutividade elétrica. Independentemente da concentração, o paclobutrazol reduziu a germinação, emergência de plântulas, altura de parte aérea, área foliar e propiciou um aumento na detecção de clorofila. A peliculização não interfere na ação do paclobutrazol sobre as sementes. O paclobutrazol é eficiente no condicionamento da altura de mudas mas prejudica a germinação e o vigor de sementes.Palavras-chave: Solanum lycopersicum L., recobrimento de sementes, regulador de crescimento, germinação, vigor. Film coating of tomato seeds of the associated paclobutrazol AbstractSeed treatment with paclobutrazol (PBZ) should be enhanced and coating technologies, such as film coating can be applied uniformly and promising to fix this regulator in the seed coat without allowing a contact damaging the embryo. The objective of this research was to determine the effects of film coating with paclobutrazol on physiological potential of tomato seeds and its implications on the growth seedlings. A randomized experiment design was applied in a factorial 2×4 scheme, presence or absence of the polymer coating Disco AG Red L-203® (0 or 150 ml kg -1 seed) and four concentrations of paclobutrazol -PBZ (0, 38,5 , 76,9 and 115,4 mg L -1 ). The interaction between factors (film coating x paclobutrazol concentrations) occurred only for variable electrical conductivity. Regardless of the concentration, paclobutrazol reduced germination, seedling emergence, height, leaf area and led to an increase in the detection of chlorophyll. Film coating does not interfere with the action of paclobutrazol on the seeds. Paclobutrazol is effective in seedling growth control, but affect the germination and seed vigor.

Thermotherapy in treating fennel seeds (Foeniculum vulgareMillABSTRACT -Thermotherapy is a physical treatment consisting of the exposure of seeds to the action of heat over time. The aim was to assess the health and physiological quality of fennel seeds (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.), both freshly harvested and stored for three years, and submitted to thermotherapy. Two experiments were conducted. In the first, thermotherapy was carried out on freshly-harvested fennel seeds obtained under different cropping systems: T1 -Monocrop fennel treated with the insecticide, thiamethoxam; T2 -Monocrop fennel without the application of insecticide; T3 -Fennel intercropped with cotton and treated with insecticide; T4 -Intercropped fennel without the application of insecticide. In the second experiment, seeds were used which had been stored for three years and obtained from plants, both treated and untreated with insecticide. The seeds were exposed to dry heat for different periods (0, 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 days) at 70 °C. The tests performed included: health, germination, first count, speed germination index, seedling length and dry weight. The cropping systems had no influence on the incidence of the fungus Alternaria sp. Stored fennel seeds coming from plants treated with insecticide, display better health and physiological quality. A period of 12 days of thermotherapy is effective in controlling the fungus Alternaria sp. without causing losses in the viability of the fennel seeds.Key words: Alternaria sp. Thiamethoxam. Vigour.RESUMO -A termoterapia é um tratamento físico, que consiste na exposição das sementes à ação do calor em combinação com o tempo. Objetivou-se avaliar a qualidade sanitária e fisiológica de sementes de erva-doce (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.), recém-colhidas e armazenadas por três anos, submetidas à termoterapia. Foram conduzidos dois experimentos: no primeiro, a termoterapia foi realizada com sementes de erva-doce recém-colhidas obtidas de diferentes sistemas de plantio: T1 -erva-doce solteira tratada com inseticida thiamethoxam; T2 -erva-doce solteira sem aplicação do inseticida; T3 -erva-doce consorciada com algodão e tratada com inseticida; T4 -erva-doce consorciada sem aplicação do inseticida. No segundo experimento utilizaram-se sementes armazenadas por três anos obtidas de plantas tratadas e não tratadas com inseticida. As sementes foram submetidas a diferentes tempos de exposição ao calor seco (0; 3; 6; 9, 12 e 15 dias) a 70 °C. Os testes realizados foram: sanidade, germinação, primeira contagem, índice de velocidade de germinação, comprimento e massa seca de plântulas. Os sistemas de plantio não influenciaram na incidência do fungo Alternaria sp. As sementes de erva-doce armazenadas, oriundas de plantas tratadas com inseticida, possuem maior qualidade sanitária e fisiológica. O período de 12 dias de termoterapia é eficiente no controle do fungo Alternaria sp. sem proporcionar perdas na viabilidade das sementes de erva-doce.Palavras-chave: Alternaria sp. Thiamethoxam. The guinea grass Panicum maximum, an African grass, is one of the main forage grasses in tropical America. Its propagation is mainly carried out by seeds, but seed dormancy hampers good pasture establishment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of heat treatment to overcome seed dormancy of P. maximum cultivars Milênio, Tanzânia and Mombaça. Seeds of each cultivar have been subjected to heat treatments at temperatures of 50, 60 and 70°C with exposure time for 5, 10 and 15 h. Afterwards, they were placed in germination test. The data were subjected to analysis of variance and, when significant, polynomial regression was performed, with up to 5% of probability. The variables analyzed were germination percentage, germination speed index (GSI) and average germination time (AGT). P. maximum seeds of different cultivars showed distinct responses to heat treatment. The cultivar Tanzânia responds positively to different combinations of temperature and periods of seeds exposure, and the treatment at 70°C for about 8 h is recommended to overcome dormancy with better germination performance. For cultivar Milênio, it is recommended the exposure of seeds at 70°C for 15 h. Cultivar Mombaça is negatively influenced by the heat treatment, so this treatment is not recommended.
