The inadequate agricultural management in the semiarid region of northeastern Brazil, associated with the fragility of most soils, has caused degradation of the quality of this resource. This study aimed to evaluate the quality of Quartzipsamments under different uses through the multivariate analysis of chemical and physical attributes. Five areas were selected: four of them with agricultural use (onion, banana, cassava, and corn) and the other with Caatinga. Soil samples were collected at depths of 0.00-0.10, 0.10-0.20, and 0.20-0.40 m for chemical and physical analyses. The data were submitted to descriptive analysis and then to the multivariate analysis using the principal component analysis (PCA) technique and Ward's clustering method. PCA and clustering techniques allowed the identification of different production systems in subsurface layers, suggesting the effect of fertility on the differentiation of areas with onion and banana, as well as the clustering of cassava and corn cultivations. Physical attributes and sodium content of the surface layer of the area with onion showed a tendency of compaction and salinization process of this environment. In general, fertility was the main responsible for the improvement of soil quality with agricultural use when compared to the Caatinga.

The replacement of native vegetation by crops may result in changes in the chemical and physical attributes of the soil, preventing the sustainability of the agricultural production. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate, in two consecutive years (2014 and 2015), the effect of irrigated mango cultivation in some physical and chemical attributes of the soil in relation to Caatinga in Petrolina-PE, Brazil. In areas under irrigated mango (under the canopy region and the row spacing) and Caatinga (taken as reference), soil samples were collected at the 0-10 and 10-20 cm depths. The chemical and physical analyzes were performed, and were calculated bases sum (BS), cations exchangeable capacity (CEC) and base saturation (V, %). The irrigate mango cultivation (canopy region) increased the macronutrients content (P, K, Ca and Mg), BS and V (%) for both evaluated years at the 0-10 and 10-20 cm depths. In soil under irrigated mango cultivation (under the canopy region and in the row spacing), the macronutrient contents presented a stochastic pattern in the years of 2014 and 2015. The change of land use, from Caatinga to irrigated mango cultivation, does not induce a negative impact in the soil chemical attributes under the adopted management conditions.

Uma das metodologias utilizadas para a obtenção da condutividade hidráulica é o permeâmetro de carga constante. Porém a grande variação dos resultados gera necessidade de análises para melhorar a precisão destes, como o uso de gráficos de controle estatístico de qualidade. Este trabalho analisou por meio de gráficos de controle, a metodologia do permeâmetro de carga constante para dois solos diferentes na obtenção da condutividade hidráulica, variando a densidade dos solos e analisando seu índice de sensibilidade. O LUVISSOLO CRÔMICO é mais sensível à variação de densidade do solo, para a condutividade hidráulica, do que o NEOSSOLO REGOLÍTICO. Os gráficos de controle foram úteis na melhoria da precisão dos valores analisados, mostrando a variação da condutividade hidráulica e quais foram os pontos fora dos limites desejáveis. One of the methodologies used to obtain the hydraulic conductivity is the constant head permeameter. However, the large variation of results generates the need for analyzes to improve their accuracy, such as the use of quality statistical control graphs. This work analyzed, by means of control charts, the methodology of constant head permeameter for two different soils in obtaining hydraulic conductivity, varying the density of soils and analyzing their sensitivity index. Luvisol is more sensitive to density variation, for hydraulic conductivity, than entisol. Control graphs were useful in improving accuracy of the analyzed values, showing the variation of hydraulic conductivity and what were the points outside the desirable limits.
