This paper describes the Quality-of-Life profile of the elderly residing in an inland region located at middle south of the Portugal main territory, presenting a larger area and low population density, which is composed of several items, extracted after statistics analysis of the data taken from the European Portuguese version of WHOQOL-BREF. Cross-sectional, descriptive study, with a random sample composed of elderly individuals residing in the community. Data collected by health professionals in the participants’ houses, using the European Portuguese WHOQOL-BREF instrument. The factorial validity was assessed by a confirmatory factor analysis. Appropriate statistical tests were used for comparison between mean Quality-of-Life scores according to gender, age group, marital status and educational level. Regression models were used to identify the biological and sociodemographic possible predictive factors of Quality-of-Life and the possible predictive domains of the General-Health-Facet. All Quality-of-Life domains and the General-Health-Facet decreased with advancing age. A higher and lower mean scores were observed, respectively for the Social Relationships and Physical Health domains. Males had higher mean Quality-of-Life scores than females, while widows and older women had the lowest ones when compared to other individuals. Educational level was the most significant sociodemographic predictive factor of Quality-of-Life domains, with scores increasing as the educational level increased. Moreover, Physical Health domain was the strongest predictor of the General-Health-Facet. The authors think that all the information extracted from the proposed Quality-of-Life profile, constitutes an important empirical basis that allow for more a detailed outcome of a concrete health care needs of the elderlies, leading to a concise planning and monitoring of health interventions and health policies management, extending the current general knowledge on Quality-of-Life. With this Quality-of-Life profile, which was never been made for the elderly population residing in Region of Baixo Alentejo, the authors expect “to find out what is really important for the elderlies, based on the rule: “better to know for better care”.

The aim of the study is to assess the quality of life of elderly individuals with hypertension and diabetes Mellitus. A total of 371 elderly individuals with hypertension and/or diabetes who are being treated in the public primary health care network, with a mean age of 71 years, M = 71, 34 (SD = 6.848) participated in this study. It is a quantitative-qualitative study, carried out in two stages. In the first, the quantitative data were collected using the following instruments: WHOQOL-bref, Mini Mental State Exam, and a sociodemographic questionnaire, in order to screen the second stage participants (13 elderly individuals), who corresponded to the qualitative strategy, using the focal group technique. The results showed that the elderly individuals without hypertension/diabetes had higher quality of life mean values. Those affected by both diseases presented the worst ‘physical’ domain mean values. Qualitative data indicate the ‘social’ and the ‘psychological’ domains as the most important ones, also revealing the centrality of the disease in their reports.

“…Em relação aos domínios de qualidade de vida dos adultos e idosos, verificou-se que as médias foram: social 67,72, ambiental 61,75, psíquico 56,65 e físico 54,75. Desse modo, elas foram inferiores às encontradas em um estudo com 930 adultos e idosos atendidos na UBS de Belo Horizonte, onde se observaram médias dos domínios social de 68,2, ambiental de 52,4, psíquico de 66,5 e físico de 63,0 (26) . Por fim, em um estudo realizado com adultos e idosos beneficiários de programas de transferência de renda, moradores do interior de São Paulo, as médias encontradas, quando comparadas ao atual estudo, são inferiores em todos os domínios: social (53,4), ambiental (43,0), psíquico (54,9) e físico (54,1) (8) .…”

Objetivo: Avaliar o estado nutricional e a qualidade de vida em adultos e idosos com e sem depressão.Métodos: Estudo quantitativo e transversal, com 79 usuários das Unidades Básicas de Saúde de municípios do Vale do Taquari, Rio Grande do Sul. Para determinar os escores dos domínios (físico, psicológico, ambiental e social) de qualidade de vida (QV) foi aplicado o questionário World Health Organization Quality of Life-Bref e um questionário socioeconômico (idade, renda, escolaridade e estado civil). A avaliação antropométrica contemplou peso, estatura, Índice de Massa Corporal, Circunferência da Cintura (CC) e Circunferência do Pescoço (CP). O diagnóstico de depressão foi realizado por psicólogas. O nível de significância máximo assumido foi 5% (p≤0,05), análise realizada através do software SPSS versão 22.0.
