QTL identification for cassava bacterial blight resistance under natural infection conditions

Show more

“…Two QTLs associated with cassava bacterial blight (CBB) caused by Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. manihotis ( Xam ) were reported on linkage group (LG) 4 and LG8 that explained 12.6 and 10.9% of the field resistance to CBB, respectively ( Sedano J. S. et al, 2017 ). Another study conducted by Sedano J. C. S. et al (2017) found five strain-specific QTLs conferring resistance to Xam that explained 15.8 and 22.1% of the phenotypic variance.…”

“…The resistance levels acquired have been associated with general plant defence mechanisms that limit colonisation of the xylem, such as lignification, callose deposition, suberization, accumulation of phenolic compounds, and vessel occlusion (Kpemoua et al, 1996;Jorge et al, 2000). In recent years, several QTLs have been found to be connected to Xam resistance in cassava, with specific genes linked to CBB resistance (Soto et al, 2017;Fanou et al, 2018;Díaz et al, 2018). These discoveries open potential new possibilities by incorporating these QTLs and genes into varieties with desired genetic backgrounds.…”

“…Among these QTL, two were located on linkage groups N and O, where we also found markers linked to resistance in the present study. More recently, two new QTL explaining 62% and 21% of the CBB resistance were identified to the Xam strains ClO151 and ClO121 [109], and two novel QTL which explain 10.9 and 12.6% of the field resistance to the disease, with four genes identified in the QTL intervals [110]. The genes code for a protein related to the vacuolar-sorting receptor, a serine protease carboxypeptidase, a C 2 HC zinc finger-containing protein and for a core-2/i-branching beta-1,6-nacetylglucosaminyltransferase protein.…”
