QPSK Signal Regeneration Based on Vector Phase Sensitive Amplification With Low Pump Powers

Abstract: In this paper, an all-optical quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) phase regeneration scheme using vector phase sensitive amplification (PSA) is proposed, analyzed, and simulated. Compared with the conventional scalar PSA scheme, the vector superposition of harmonics makes it easy to obtain high gain extinction ratio (GER) with low pump powers. A subsequent phase-preserving amplitude regenerating device is also introduced to achieve full-quadrature regeneration of signal without phase conjugation and frequency… Show more

“…On the contrary, in the Multi-level Phase Shift Keying (MPSK ) modulation scheme, instead of two-phase variations, multiple phase variations are used to represent the digital data. Specifically, in BPSK only one bit (n =1) is represented, however in MPSK there is M number of different signal phases that are used to represent n bits of digital data, where n =( ) [12,13,14,15,16,17].…”

“…PSA-based regeneration technology has been widely employed for BPSK [12], QPSK [13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20], 8PSK formats [21] and even for 8QAM [22,23]. Nevertheless, it has an inherent drawback that it converts phase noise to amplitude noise, and the latter may be converted back into phase noise by the nonlinear effect in transmission, which will seriously affect the transmission reach.…”

On the other hand, the nonlinear-optical loop mirror (NOLM) is a promising technology to perform all-optical amplitude regeneration through its well-known power oscillatory behavior [8].…”
